Canadian Women for

  Women in Afghanistan

Founded in 1996, CW4WAfghan is a member-based, not-for-profit organization with more than 800 members in 12 volunteer chapters across Canada.

Canadian volunteers work together with Afghan staff, partner organizations and volunteers to advance education and educational opportunities for Afghan women and their families, and to educate Canadians about human rights in Afghanistan.

Throughout Canada, CW4WAfghan members mobilize to support human rights in Afghanistan by organizing local education and fundraising activities, including Breaking Bread dinners and other cultural events; expert speaking engagements and presentations to adult and youth groups; and networking and awareness raising events. The work of CW4WAfghan is made possible through the generosity of individual donors, foundations, businesses, volunteers and community groups.

In Afghanistan, CW4WAfghan programs focus on improving the quality and access to education for Afghan women and girls. Education programs in Afghanistan are implemented, managed and monitored by our Afghan Country Office, in partnership with local Afghan citizens and organizations, and with strong oversight from our Program Management Team in both Canada and Afghanistan.

CW4WAfghan has approximately 20 ongoing projects that fall within our three field program areas: (1) Investments in Basic Education; (2) Community Libraries & Literacy Program; and (3) Technology for Education. Projects within these programs include, for example, a number of community schools, village libraries, in-service teacher training, adult literacy, English language classes, and computer classes, an an online resource library.
